For more than 95 years, Misericordia University has prided itself for staying on the forefront of health science education. There is no greater example of carrying that innovation mission forward than in the new clinical and teaching facilities that will transform the Occupation Therapy (OT) and Physical Therapy (PT) programs. These advancements are critical to keeping two of Misericordia’s most dynamic and successful programs innovative and desirable in the eyes of student constituents.
Future enrollment and the ability to provide clinical services to the community is required to stay relevant in the challenging higher education marketplace.
At an estimated cost of approximately $8 million, Misericordia plans to create a new center for OT and PT clinical health education to enhance our clinical and classroom studies well into the 21st century.
The proposed Occupational Therapy space will include a large classroom, a home health apartment simulator, a functional kitchen, a residential style bathroom, a pediatric clinic for ages 2-18, and a simulated acute care hospital ward. There are plans for two or more Capstone Centers designed to allow students to work together on collaborative, interdisciplinary projects.
The proposed Physical Therapy clinic will include orthopedic and neurological laboratories and a Motion Analysis Lab for human performance assessment that PT, physics, and athletics will use.
