Walker School of Education

Preparing Nebraska’s Next Generation of Educators

The Walker School of Education is growing innovative pathways into education while preparing exceptional teachers and leaders to serve Nebraska schools and communities.

Our impact continues to grow:

• 94% of teacher candidates were rated proficient or advanced across education standards by cooperating teachers, with university supervisors rating 97% proficient or advanced.
• A record incoming cohort is beginning its journey toward becoming educators, strengthening the pipeline of future teachers.
• Our Para to Teacher Pathways program has grown from 44 to 306 students in just three years, with partnerships expanding from 2 to 30 Nebraska school districts.
• More than 90% of Para to Teacher graduates have become teachers in the districts where they previously worked as paraeducators.
• Graduate education is at its highest enrollment to date, with M.Ed. enrollment growing 30% over last year.
• In May 2026, we celebrated our first Ed.D. graduates and the first graduates of our Master’s in Special Education program.

Through strong curriculum, innovative programs, and partnerships with school districts across Nebraska, the Walker School of Education is helping remove barriers to the profession while maintaining high standards of excellence.

Your Giving Day support helps us continue that momentum—investing in future educators, strengthening Nebraska’s teacher workforce, and ultimately serving students and communities across the state.
