Greetings, Roadrunner family! My name is Evelyn Montes Gonzalez, and I am a sophomore at Metropolitan State University of Denver.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve had my heart set on becoming an engineer. I grew up watching my mom work toward becoming a computer systems engineer and developed an early appreciation for math, science and physics.

Today, I am following my dream of becoming an aerospace engineer by doing an Independent Degree Program in Aerospace Systems Engineering Technology and getting a certificate in Space Commercialization.

However, getting where I am required the kind of support students can only get at MSU Denver.

When a college, I had a fixed idea of which schools I needed to attend to pursue my chosen degree – all outside my family’s budget. Then, I connected with an MSU Denver outreach coordinator for space tech scholars who suggested looking into University’s aerospace programs. I discovered affordable, world-class programs in my field and amazing staff members to help me navigate the higher education system.

Now, I’m having the educational experience I always dreamed of while developing meaningful friendships and professional connections. I learn from faculty members who are experts in their fields and have access to industry partnerships that will set me on the path to success in the space industry after graduation. I also get to indulge my inner space nerd by working with equally passionate classmates to do incredible things like launching balloon satellites into the stratosphere.

All of this is possible because of the generosity of our proud Roadrunner family – you are changing the lives of current and future MSU Denver students by helping them fulfill their goal of earning a degree. I wouldn’t be where I am without your support, and I am so grateful!
