WOMEN'S SOCCER
Dear MWS Family,
You have been amazing in your response to the Athletics Department’s Giving Day over the past four years. Last year we raised $18,000 to help support the program, which was amazing and so appreciated. This year I have another “project” for the MWS family and hope you will be excited by the opportunity to be a part of it.
This spring we are returning to Colombia and our partners in soccer COSDECOL. We took the team for the first time three years ago and are anxious to return and reconnect with our friends in Medellin. I asked them what might be one of the most helpful things for them to support their soccer ministry to the youth in their area. His response was equipment for the coaches in their 14 Sectors. There are no funds available for equipment to help the coaches and they must try and come up with the money on their own through the local communities, which are generally very poor.
My goal or vision is to provide a “training kit” for each of the sectors and their coach that would include 20 balls, cones, training vests, and ball bags. The cost to do this would be about $500 per sector or $7,000 total. We would then provide COSDECOL the funds and they would then purchase the equipment in Colombia.
In addition to this I would like to raise $5,000 to help support the trip and reduce the cost for the players. This would also be used to help cover the cost of bus transportation to and from the airport, along with the other expenses that will occur.
Finally I would like to raise $3,000 to help support the program’s general budget. The costs incurred each season are not able to be covered by the institution and we must come up with the difference at the end of the year. This is primarily transportation and food costs for the team that aren’t covered by the budget.
The goal for Giving Day is $15,000.
The continued support by the families and friends of MWS make this truly the best place in the country to play soccer.
