Your gift enables K-12 students to benefit from MICA’s unique art and design programming for youth. As a part of MICA, participants explore their creativity embedded within a cohort of enthusiastic art makers alongside passionate and knowledgeable educators.
Since 1884, generations of Baltimore’s young people have experienced an expansive array of classes tailored to their developmental needs and designed to inspire their creativity. During the last 3 decades MICA has served over 15,000 students on campus in grades K-12. For more than two decades, MICA has also partnered with The St. Paul’s Schools in Brooklandville, MD to support more students in their creative art and design interests.
Friends of Youth Programming supports our Young People’s Studios (YPS) students in Grades K-8 and High School Studios (HSS) students in Grades 9-12.
Young People’s Studios students learn to express themselves, think critically, and build confidence through artistic exploration. From drawing and painting to digital illustration and photography, our YPS Fall and Spring weekend classes and summer art camp sessions are a great way to spark creativity and nurture artistic innovation.
High School Studios students enroll in classes that provide a pathway for young artists to explore their creative interests and grow as artists and designers. With dedicated mentorship and support for exploring new media and techniques, high school students hone their creative voices and prepare to apply to competitive undergraduate programs in art and design education.
Youth programs are run by MICA Open Studies, one of the three academic units at the college. Open Studies fuels creative journeys through convenient and innovative learning models that provide broad access to the college’s rigorous art and design education.
