Women's Rugby

The Marist College women’s rugby team had a tremendous season last spring. While attending the annual Beast of the East Rugby Tournament in Rhode Island, we competed against both D1 and D2 teams. Our hard work and resilience to push to the very end allowed us to beat UMass Amherst in the last 30 seconds of the semifinals, a moment our players will never forget. At the tournament we were able to finish 2^nd overall and we could not be prouder of the performance of our team.

As we look ahead to this spring’s semester, we are planning to attend Beast of the East and several other tournaments. In order to attend these tournaments, entry fees, transportation costs, and hotel bills are all things we must worry about. With a team of almost 50 women, these costs are more than our annual budget can handle. Each tournament can cost anywhere between $2,000 and $5,000. Without the support of our families, friends, and alumni, we would not be able to compete at such a competitive level or be able to send all of our players to the Beast of the East tournament which is an amazing learning and bonding opportunity.

Throughout this past fall we have welcomed over 25 women to our rugby family. We have seen each and every one of them grow as players and look forward to their continued development. We look forward to seeing our team compete this spring and cannot wait to continue to teach the new team members what playing rugby is all about. Resilience, confidence, teamwork, and leadership are just some of the thing’s rugby can teach someone — all things that we take with us once our time competing with the Marist women’s rugby team comes to end.
