Short-term study abroad programs such as this course led by Dr. Jeff Bosworth and Dr. Jon Rothermel are critical to shaping our future leaders. The immersive education experience of the Belize summer program goes beyond the confines of traditional classrooms, with their walls, desks, and computers into a world of Mayan sites, cultural communities, rainforests, and barrier reefs. These experiences offer students the opportunity to broaden their horizons, gain self-awareness, and understand their own culture better.

Our summer course on Belizean politics and culture includes a 15-day adventure that promises personal growth, academic enrichment, and cultural immersion. It is designed for everyone with a sense of adventure and curiosity and is open to all majors. Your support directly helps offset the travel costs for students.

Belize is home to a rich cultural tapestry and a fascinating history that includes the descendants of the original Maya civilization as well as a wide variety of modern ethnic groups: Creole, Mestizo, Garifuna, Mennonite, and many others. A former British colony, Belize stands today as a proud democratic system facing the challenges of economic development and environmental sustainability. It is a unique lens through which students learn through interdisciplinary perspectives and from interviews with local Belizeans, directed readings, and hands-on activities.
