Sustain the incredible education that is one of the cornerstones of Macalester’s mission, including student-faculty research, curricular development, and the flexibility to pilot new projects and academic initiatives. Gifts also support the Jan Serie Center for Scholarship and Teaching which was established in 2002 to encourage, promote, and support the pursuit of excellence in scholarship and teaching within Macalester’s distinctive urban liberal arts setting. In 2009, the Center was renamed the Jan Serie Center for Scholarship and Teaching in honor of its founding director Jan Serie, O.T. Walter Professor of Biology.
