The Physics and Astronomy Department at Macalester fosters a vibrant community, with an average of 12 students graduating annually with majors in physics or physics with astronomy emphasis. The five dedicated faculty members conduct active research at the frontier of physics and astronomy, involving students in projects that emphasize collaborative student-faculty research. With successful external research funding, students gain valuable practical experience through well-equipped facilities and opportunities for summer research projects, supported by stipends and housing subsidies.
