Gifts to Support It All contribute to...
Support everything you love about Macalester and help Macalester to continue to strive toward living our values and educating tomorrow’s leaders. Gifts to Support It All go to work immediately for all aspects of Macalester and provide crucial flexibility to the college’s operating budget. Gifts provide broad, annual, and essential support for everyone in the Macalester community.
High Impact Practices: A key feature of the Imagine, Macalester strategic plan is to expand opportunities for students to engage in high-impact practices and experiential learning. Your gift to the Support it All designation will allow us to create the conditions to guarantee access to these opportunities for all Macalester students. High Impact Practices at Macalester include practices such as:
- Study Away We support intellectual and cultural engagement through study away, as an enduring part of a liberal arts education. We strive to ensure that study away experiences reflect the core values of Macalester College – scholarship, internationalism, multiculturalism, and service to society.
- Summer Research Projects Laboratory research projects are open to all Macalester students, whether or not they are majoring in science. Conducting research is a great experience to apply classroom learnings, especially for science majors planning to go onto graduate school.
- Student Conference Travel Attending conferences gives students the opportunity to engage with their academic disciplines beyond the classroom, fostering deeper understanding and passion for their field. Additionally, exposure to diverse perspectives and networking opportunities at conferences cultivates critical thinking skills and professional development, preparing students for future success in their careers.
- Internships These opportunities provide students with firsthand experience in professional environments, enriching their understanding of theoretical concepts and preparing them for future roles in their fields. By engaging in internships, students can build practical skills and establish meaningful connections within their industries, contributing to their holistic academic journey.
- Community-based Learning Through our Civic Engagement Center, students are connected with community-based organizations to apply their classroom knowledge to real-world issues. Through meaningful engagement with local communities, students not only apply concepts in practical settings but also develop empathy, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills essential for addressing today’s societal challenges.
- Ordway Nature Center Macalester’s field station's mission focuses on education, research, sustainability, and civic engagement. It serves as a living laboratory for educational visits from various academic levels and community groups, while also facilitating research opportunities for students and faculty.
- Law Warschaw Gallery The Gallery is dedicated to a world-class exhibition program that values artistic presentation and community collaboration. It offers students experiential learning opportunities through class visits, student art exhibitions, and employment at the gallery.
- And more like writing-intensive courses and collaborative assignments that are implemented across programs and initiatives at Macalester.
