Highland Support Project – Guatemala Study Abroad
This transformative study abroad experience will take students from Metropolitan State University of Denver to Guatemala to engage directly with Indigenous-led movements for justice, sustainability, and community well-being. Through a partnership with the Highland Support Project and the Asociación de Mujeres del Altiplano, students will participate in service-learning projects focused on women’s empowerment, environmental stewardship, and cultural revitalization. Guided by the framework of Indigenous internationalism and feminist praxis, the course combines hands-on collaboration with academic reflection to deepen understanding of global solidarity and decolonial futures.
We are seeking funding to make this life-changing opportunity accessible to all students, regardless of financial background. Many of our students are the first in their families to travel abroad, and the costs of airfare, lodging, and travel insurance can be prohibitive. Your support will help cover these expenses and ensure that every student who is academically qualified and passionate about this work can participate. By contributing, you are investing not only in student learning but also in the creation of more equitable global partnerships rooted in respect, reciprocity, and shared growth.
