About

College of Health and Human Sciences
We in the College of Health and Human Sciences seek to diversify. A diverse workforce is better equipped to serve a diverse patient population and results in improved patient care quality and a reduction in health disparities. One barrier is the compliance fees that students enrolled in healthcare programs must pay for requirements such as background checks, immunizations, BLS/CPR training, liability insurance, and a subscription to the myClinicalExchange platform. Compliance fees can add up to just under $500.00 per student, be unanticipated, and adversely affect students. We would like to give some financial support to students paying these out-of-pocket fees; otherwise, the cost can be prohibitive for students to secure a mandatory clinical or internship rotation.

The following student testimonials speak to the financial hardship:

“As a student who is preparing to pay for the nursing program tuition out of pocket with no substantial help from financial aid, the compliance costs have added up and taken money out of my savings and I believe this is the case for many other students who are currently in the process. Currently I don’t have health insurance and have had to pay $453. I still need to purchase nursing liability insurance.”

-- Abhipsha Shrestha, Bachelor of Nursing Program Student

“I don’t want to lose my internship due to these requirements that seem out of my control. I don’t have insurance and would have to pay out of pocket for any necessary vaccinations. My job is part-time, so I don’t receive any benefits.”

-- Alessa Loor, Master of Social Work Program Student

I’m currently pursuing my master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology. Originally from Mexico, I arrived in the US at the age of 3 and have since navigated my educational journey as a DACA recipient, breaking ground as the first in my family to attend college. Unlike my undergraduate experience, balancing the demands of academics with full-time employment is not feasible, forcing me to resort to private loans with higher interest rates. The challenges extend beyond tuition fees. As I prepared for my externship at UCHealth this semester, additional expenses emerged unexpectedly. From mandatory health insurance and vaccinations to outfitting myself with scrubs, the financial strain intensified. By providing assistance for out-of-pocket expenses related to mandatory compliance requirements, we can alleviate the burden and ensure equitable access to educational opportunities for all students.”

-- Cecilia Ramos Perez, Master’s of Speech Language Pathology Program Student

Your Impact
Your donation of any size gift will go to help a nursing, social work, speech language pathology, or other healthcare student pay to complete their mandatory compliance requirements for clinical and internship rotations. These funds will help alleviate the burden our healthcare students are facing to pay for compliance fees and support their dream of a degree in the healthcare field.
