The Literacy Research Center & Clinic
MSU Denver is proud to introduce the Literacy Research Center and Clinic, our first state-focused initiative to address the critical literacy challenges facing Colorado’s children and young adults. Literacy is essential for success in education, health, employment, and civic life—but poor literacy skills can lead to low self-esteem, high dropout rates, and soaring healthcare costs. In Colorado, significant numbers of students struggle with reading proficiency, underscoring the urgent need for transformative support.
Our center is designed to tackle these challenges on multiple fronts. We will conduct cutting-edge research to identify effective literacy interventions, offer clinical services to assess and improve reading and writing skills, and provide professional development for educators from PreK through higher education. This holistic approach not only aims to boost academic outcomes but also to enhance overall community well-being.
We envision a dual funding strategy to make this vision a reality. A targeted investment over the next three years will support key program elements—including workshops, student employment, and faculty mentoring—while contributions toward an endowment will secure long-term sustainability. By investing in this initiative, donors gain exclusive access to our research findings, contribute to measurable community impact, and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of education in Colorado.
Join us in transforming lives through literacy—together, we can create lasting change that empowers every student to succeed.
