Chef David Beckwith Memorial Endowed Scholarship
This Fund was established to provide scholarships to students who have a declared major within the University’s School of Hospitality. It honors the legacy of Chef David Beckwith, a dedicated and energetic professor who will be remembered for his passion for food and supporting students. During his time at MSU Denver, Beckwith taught courses in baking and pastry, international cooking, food science and fundamentals, and pairing food with beer and wine. He also volunteered annually for the ‘Fill a Plate for Hunger’ fundraiser, helping to raise thousands of dollars for hunger alleviation.
His 35 years of real-world restaurant and catering experience made him an ideal educator and mentor to MSU Denver students. As a Roadrunner, Beckwith was known for his collegiality and his ability to create engaging and well-attended events through partnerships with other courses and instructors. He made sure to recognize student success and herald achievement.
"Chef Beckwith was an exceptional culinary leader who always wanted the best for his students. His joy in witnessing their success is truly inspiring. With a wealth of culinary and hospitality knowledge, he had the unique ability to elevate even the simplest occasions into memorable experiences. He embodied the philosophy that hospitality is all about the opulence of the host for the experience of the guest. His passion for teaching and dedication to his craft made him a remarkable mentor in the culinary world."
- Rebecca S., former student and friend of Chef David Beckwith
"Chef Beckwith once told me that working at MSU Denver was the capstone of his career. Having spent his prior years in the kitchen, he saw a university professorship as his ultimate achievement. Teaching was his platform to give back to the industry he loved. Chef Beckwith was one of the first teachers I met. He was both dedicated to his profession and prideful of the opportunity to share his knowledge. Being a transfer student, he took it upon himself to introduce me to countless peers and teachers, making me feel at home as a Roadrunner. Chef Beckwith recognized the needs of his students and maintained a sense of community, something you often find at MSU Denver. He relentlessly charged beyond the call of duty to support his students, and he led his class with the spirit that he led his kitchens. It was teachers like him that made my experience at MSU Denver great, and thankfully, Chef Beckwith was in good company."
- Sam Knippers, former student of Chef Beckwith
