Lactation Consultant Training Certificate
The Department of Nutrition is raising funds for students enrolled in the Lactation Consultant Training Certificate program. Students enrolled in this program aspire to become International Board-Certified Lactation Consultants. International Board-Certified Lactation Consultants play a critical role on the maternal-child health team. To become an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant, student must complete 300 unpaid hours of supervised practice and complete 6 hours of coursework in 9 months. Completing the program in 9 months places a substantial financial burden on our students.
MSU Denver’s Lactation Consultant Training Certificate program was created to address health disparities in our BIPOC communities related to nutrition and health care. In health care, patients are more likely to have positive behavior change when their provider looks like them and can understand what they are going through. One of the goals for the Lactation Consultant Training Certificate program is to increase diversity in the lactation field. MSU Denver is uniquely positioned to meet this goal as we serve first-generation and low-income students. There are currently only seven programs of its kind in the United States, and we are proud to be one of the seven.
Your Support
Funds raised during MSU Denver’s Day of Giving will be provided to students enrolled in the Lactation Consultant Training Certificate program to assist them with paying for the cost of their education. There are many costs associated with becoming an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant including tuition, fees, textbooks, scrubs, transportation, and housing. These funds will help alleviate the burden our students are facing to pay for their education.
