The United States is in a mental health crisis. The National Institute of Mental Health reported in 2021, an estimated 57.8 million people aged 18 or older in the United States live with any mental illness (AMI). AMI was higher among females. Adults aged 18-25 had the highest prevalence of AMI at 33.7%. Further, the CDC reports that in 2021, one person died by suicide every 11 minutes.
And there is a shortage in available mental health professionals. According to a recent practitioner impact study from the American Psychological Association, 60 percent of psychologists report no openings for new patients.
Who has the power to make a difference? Lynn graduate Kevin Lynch's desire is to reduce the stigma and normalize discussions around mental health. He and his wife Karen generously issued the Lynch Challenge to prepare Lynn students to make a difference in their work in the mental health field.
All donations designated to the challenge will be matched dollar for dollar up to $250,000. For more information about Mr. Lynch's work with Lynn University, please visit: Lynn University and The Quell Foundation call on first responders | Lynn University.
