Alternative Spring Break 2020

7% of $10,350 goal

Alternative Spring Break gives students the opportunity to give back to communities by learning about different social issues and then spending time in an area making a difference. Students pay to participate in these trips, but without fundraising many of them would not be able to afford the experience. This year, we have three different trips available to our students: Oaxaca, Mexico; Oakland, California; and a trip to all five national parks in Utah.

The Oaxaca Mexico service trip is focused on childhood development. Our students will be volunteering at a local after-school program helping with art projects, homework assignments, and other extracurricular activities. Students will also volunteer in the kitchen to help provide kids with nutritious meals. This is a unique opportunity to learn and serve in a different country whilst being immersed in a new culture.

Our trip to Oakland, California is focused on education and youth empowerment at Grant Elementary School. Linfield students will assist in organizing teachers' materials in the classrooms, helping the students with their reading, and working alongside them in the school garden. Aside from these planned activities, we will be passing on words of wisdom to students at Grant Elementary School in hopes that they continue to develop a passion for education and set ambitious goals for themselves both personally and academically.

The group of students going to Utah will explore the five national parks. This trip will partner with Linfield’s Outdoor Recreation Program. Students will be spending most of their time outdoors exploring and volunteering in two of the national parks. During this trip, students will be learning about sustainability, the environment, and national parks.

We need your help! Your donations will go toward covering the cost of the trips for students.

$15 will cover the cost of food for 1 student for 1 day.
$90 will cover the cost of all meals for 1 student.
$200 will cover the cost of lodging for 1 student.

Thank you for making these trips possible.
