The Society of Women Engineers aims to inspire and develop our student members and the young females in our surrounding Bethlehem community. Throughout the year our members attend meetings, outreach events, professional development sessions, mentoring programs, and social events. These events help develop a female engineering community, so our members can have support throughout their studies and future careers as an underrepresented gender in STEM.

SWE has two main projects that we need funding for this year: the SWE Conference and the Women and Non-Binary in STEM Dinner. The SWE conference is an annual national conference hosted by national SWE. You can read more about the conference on their website: The conference is an opportunity for Lehigh women in engineering to connect with female engineering professionals. There are various sessions that are intended to empower young women engineers such as How to Ask for the Wage You Deserve along with sessions meant to develop attendees' professional skills such as elevator pitch workshops. One highlight of the event is the career fair, where over 100 top companies meet, interview, and even offer jobs to attendees. For the Women and Non-Binary in STEM Dinner, it's an opportunity for undergraduate students, graduate students, engineering professionals, Lehigh University alumni, and faculty members to have an open discussion about their experiences in engineering. The dinner consists of a networking social, where attendees float around from table to table to participate in fruitful discussions about being an underrepresented gender in STEM and how to create a better space for future women in engineering. We also have a catered dinner and a keynote speaker. Last year was the sixth annual Women and Non-Binary in STEM Dinner, and Lisa Nibauer '89 gave a keynote speech about her experiences at Lehigh, how that shaped her career early on, and the career decisions she made leading her to where she is now. The mission for both of these projects is to create an environment where young Lehigh women engineers feel a community of support at Lehigh to encourage them in their studies and to prepare them with the professional skills and confidence to thrive in the workplace.
