About

Thank you for supporting the Ireland Peacebuilding Program.

During the semester, students get a deep dive into the origins of the conflict through literature, film, historical narratives, and Zoom visits with stakeholders in Northern Ireland. At the end of the course, students spend two weeks encountering people who have lived through violence and now contribute to the long peacebuilding process. In short, our students get to witness living history, and learn how transformational peacebuilding and social change happen.

$3800 will cover all program costs for a student!

About the Ireland Peacebuilding Program scholarship and experience, Karly Kovac wrote: “The program changed my life immensely. It not only changed the way that I view conflict and forgiveness, but made me realize the true blessings in my family and in my own life. It allowed me to connect to another culture, and take what I learned from them and their restorative process back to the U.S.”

Kara Grose wrote: “This trip to Northern Ireland and the Republic will forever have a special place in my heart. It was truly a one-of-a-kind experience. Traveling with students my age, bonded me to people I probably would have never met or became friends with at John Carroll. I now feel like I have 15 new friends. Traveling with four inspiring adults like Dr. Metres, Rory, Dave, and our icon Raymond taught me the power of relationships and always kept things interesting. Meeting with people who are living and speaking their truth in the midst of an immense political divide was inspiring and offered insight to me that is irreplaceable. I feel a brand-new connection to John Carroll and the world that I would have never experienced if it wasn’t for this trip. To anyone debating going on this trip, take the risk and you will be guaranteed to see the world and yourself differently.”
