The Illinois College community is mourning the profound loss of beloved Trustee Emeritus Robert “Bob” E. Chipman ’74 H’23.
Bob lived within walking distance of campus most of his life and he often took walks across the Hilltop with his wife of 51 years, Janet Williams Chipman ’75. He held many roles at Illinois College, including 25 years serving on the Board of Trustees. He is remembered as an engaged alumnus and a kind, humble leader who found great satisfaction in helping others. Bob’s greatest joy in life was always his family. They are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
The family encourages memorials to the following institutions Bob spent his life serving: First Presbyterian Church, Illinois College, Jacksonville Area Museum Foundation, Jacksonville Public Schools Foundation, Prairieland United Way, and the YMCA — instead of flowers.
