About

An emotionally healthy student is a successful student. The Counseling and Mental Health Center helps students be well and succeed. When students are distracted by anxieties or overrun by depression they don't focus on academics. Students seen at the center are more likely to progress than students to who don't visit the center. Whether it's helping students connect with others through groups, get the individual support needed through one-on-one meetings, or wowing our students with state-of-the-art biofeedback, the center transforms the lives of students.

Your donation today can help save a life. Suicide is the second leading cause of death among college students. In fact, over 20% of college students have seriously considered suicide at some point in their life. These students require rapid intervention and demand more counseling center resources than ever before. By reaching these students early we are able to teach them more effective coping strategies and make the ISU community safer for all.

Your donations improve the lives of ISU students and help them succeed. Treatment works. The center’s licensed psychologists, counselors, and social workers provide effective, state-of-the-art treatments to improve the lives of students and help them succeed academically.

Funds to support Bengal Mental Health will help meet the needs of students in distress in two primary ways. Here's how your donation makes a difference:

Prevention

1. Help find novel ways to engage students. Our rapidly changing world requires that we continually reach students in new and creative ways, often with technology.

2. Help us teach them to cope. We strive to reach students early to teach skills to avoid big problems later on.

3. Support our training program. We partner with academic departments to ensure that ISU students get help but also learn to help one another. We need to recruit, pay, and supply them with the resources to serve one another. We need resources to train faculty and staff to recognize and assist students in distress.

Treatment

1. Ensure we have enough providers to meet student needs. This means hiring part-time counselors for peak times or endowed positions to ensure ongoing support for students into the future.

2. Help ensure our staff stay current on treatments to support students. Professional development funds enable advanced training that supports our students and the academic training of ISU graduate students.

3. Keep us supplied. The center requires the regular update and replenishment of technology, clinical assessment materials, treatment protocols, and additional supplies.
