Gifts to Hygiene for Student Equity contribute to...
Hunter College serves a diverse student body, many of whom face financial challenges that extend beyond tuition and textbooks. Nearly 74% of Hunter students receive financial aid, and many come from low- to middle-income households. While the college provides important resources such as food assistance and technology support, there remains a significant gap in access to basic hygiene products.
Hygiene insecurity—including lack of access to soap, deodorant, toothpaste, etc.—can lead to anxiety, absenteeism, and barriers to full participation in campus life. To address this need, the Basic Needs Initiative works alongside existing efforts like the Purple PEERiod Project to provide free, accessible hygiene kits for students.
Funds raised on Giving Day will be used to purchase and distribute essential hygiene items such as soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, etc. ensuring that all students—regardless of gender or financial background—have access to basic care. Your support will help us expand access, reduce stigma, and create a campus where students can focus on their education rather than worrying about meeting their basic needs.
