Gifts to JFEW contribute to...
At Hunter College, most students commute. We move between jobs, internships, family responsibilities, and classes — often rushing in and out of campus without the kind of shared, in-between moments that define a traditional “grassy quad” college experience.
For JFEW Scholars, who are deeply committed to public service, nonprofit leadership, journalism, and documentary storytelling, that missing piece of built-in community matters.
We are raising funds on Giving Day to support a JFEW Community-Building Retreat — a dedicated space and time for scholars to step away from the noise of the city, connect with one another, and strengthen the network that will sustain us throughout our careers.
This retreat will allow us to:
- Build deeper relationships across cohorts
- Share our professional goals and creative projects
- Engage in mentorship and peer workshops
- Develop leadership skills rooted in collaboration
- Create a lasting support system beyond graduation
Unlike residential campuses where community forms organically, Hunter students have to be intentional. We don’t always live in dorms together. We don’t linger on lawns between classes. Many are first-generation college students balancing work and school. Without structured opportunities to connect, even a powerful cohort like JFEW can feel fragmented.
Your support will directly fund:
- Retreat space rentals
- Transportation and meals
- Facilitators or workshop leaders
- Materials for leadership and storytelling sessions
Every dollar raised on Giving Day helps transform JFEW from a scholarship program into a lifelong professional network.
When you give, you’re not just funding a retreat. You’re investing in future public servants, journalists, nonprofit leaders, and filmmakers who will carry forward the values of equity and women’s advancement.
Help us build the community that will build the future.
