Gifts to Women and Gender Studies contribute to...
At Hunter College Women and Gender Studies (WGS), we examine the forces that shape our most intimate and public lives, from reproduction and family policy to labor, race, sexuality, migration, health, and democracy itself. Our department is a vibrant intellectual home for students who want to understand how power works through gender, and how to change the world because of it.
Our students are first-generation college students, immigrants, activists, artists, future lawyers, teachers, public health leaders, and policymakers. They come to WGS seeking not only knowledge, but tools: tools to analyze inequality, tools to advocate for justice, and tools to build more equitable institutions.
Our faculty are deeply engaged scholars and mentors. We offer interdisciplinary courses that connect political theory, history, public policy, cultural analysis, and lived experience. Whether students are studying reproductive politics, social movements, economic inequality, care work, or global feminism, they are learning how to think critically, write persuasively, and act ethically in complex public debates.
Women and Gender Studies at Hunter is not just a major. It is a community committed to rigorous scholarship, public engagement, and social transformation. Your support ensures that our students have the resources they need to thrive.
Together, we can continue building a department that empowers students to analyze the world, and to change it.
