About

John Henrik Clarke Lounge and Programming

The Clarke Lounge honors Dr. John Henrik Clarke — renowned Pan-African scholar, educator, and former Chair of Hunter’s Africana Puerto Rican and Latino Studies Department. His teaching inspired generations of students to explore their history, culture, and identity.

As Dr. Clarke said, “If we are to be masters of our destiny, we must master the ideas that inform that identity.” That spirit lives on in the Clarke Lounge — a space for learning, dialogue, and community.

More than a study space, it’s where students engage with cultural history, exchange ideas, and respond to today’s social and political challenges. With your support, we can bring this space to life through lectures, conversations, and student-centered programming that reflect Dr. Clarke’s enduring legacy.

Make your gift today to expand programming in the John H. Clarke Lounge, making it a vibrant hub of dialogue, discovery, learning, and cultural exploration.
