Founded in 1981, the Computer Science Department at Hunter College serves more than 1,600 students from diverse, social, and economic backgrounds and has been a vibrant center for computing education and research for over four decades within the City University of New York. The department offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in Computer Science and participates in doctoral training through CUNY’s Graduate Center, with faculty research spanning AI, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Robotics, Cybersecurity, Algorithms, Programming Languages, Distributed Systems, Big Data, and AI for Education.
The department is powered by an energetic community of students and faculty driving innovation—from student-led initiatives like HunterHacks, the undergraduate-organized hackathon taking place on April 25, to research labs that have collectively secured millions of dollars in external funding from NSF, NIH, and industry partners.
Your support will help sustain student-driven programs like HunterHacks while expanding resources for active research faculty whose work provides hands-on learning, mentorship, and transformative opportunities—strengthening the technology workforce of New York City and preparing Hunter students to become the next generation of technology leaders.
