HUASB26 Presents "Service with Impact: Empowering Communities and Dismantling Disparities."
The WHUR Helping Hands Radiothon helps to support the Howard University Alternative Spring Break (HUASB) Program in which students volunteer and render services in marginalized communities around the nation. The Howard University Alternative Spring Break program is a unique student-led, service-learning experience that exposes students to concepts of social justice, interfaith exploration, and ethical leadership development. Monies from the 2026 Helping Hands Radiothon help to pay for transportation, lodging, and food for 1,200 Howard University students who will be traveling to nearly two-dozen U.S. cities where they are expected to provide more than 150-thousand hours of community service.
The 32nd Annual HUASB program will take place March 8-14, 2026. This year’s theme, “Service with Impact: Empowering Communities and Dismantling Disparities." commemorates over three decades of service in communities throughout the globe. During this year’s program, Howard University students will serve in 25 domestic and international communities focusing on various service initiatives, such as community development, developing pathways to food and housing stability, disaster resilience, education, holistic wellness, poverty, restorative justice, and youth empowerment.
Howard University Alternative Spring Break (HUASB) is a nationally recognized service-learning program for students of all faiths and backgrounds to embrace the Howard University motto of “Truth and Service.” Coordinated through the Office of the Dean of the Chapel and offered at no cost to students, this student-led University service initiative allows students to discover the power of ethical leadership, civic engagement, and communal responsibility.
This year HUASB student volunteers have expressed their commitment to forgo their traditional spring break and devote themselves to being social engineers in systematically underserved communities. The Office of the Dean of the Chapel is committed to ensuring that every student who wants to serve will be able to serve without financial barriers.
We are asking HUASB Alumni and friends to make a gift to the Howard University Alternative Spring Break program and ensure that our students have the financial support needed to change the world through service this Spring Break! Make your gift today!
