In Memorial: Perpetuating Darryl's Legacy

This campaign is being launched in memory of Father Darryl F. James to establish a fund at Howard University. Funds will be designated to provide emergency funds to eligible students, or to contribute to the general HUAA fund, of which Father James was a staunch and devoted supporter.

Father Darryl James’ exemplary record and example of service to Howard University empowers his friends to honor his memory with support to his Alma Mater. Darryl Farrar James had a family legacy among HBCUs and was a proud, loyal, and dutiful son of Howard University. He enrolled at Howard University in 1972, where SEVEN Farrar cousins matriculated together! Darryl was popular, engaging, and involved at Howard. He majored in Political Science, became a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., led the clarinet section of the Howard Marching Band, and sang robustly in the University Gospel Choir. Darryl James was also a member of the Pan Hellenic Council, was the President of the Absalom Jones Episcopal Student Association, was President of his freshman class, and was later aptly crowned MR. HOWARD UNIVERSITY! After his graduation from Howard University, Father Darryl F. James embarked onward and upward on his ministerial journey, beginning at the Absalom Jones Theological Institute in Atlanta, GA.

Although Father Darryl’s ministerial callings ranged far and wide geographically, he NEVER strayed from his dedication to Howard University’s standards of excellence in service. Wherever he lived or traveled, he represented the University well, even establishing traditional events in Howard’s honor. Everybody knows that Darryl James was instrumental in founding “Bison on the Vineyard”, “Chicken & Waffles on the Vineyard”, and “Martha’s Vineyard Mardi Gras”!

As Darryl traveled the world, he was a magnet - attractive beyond the physical – deep into the spiritual and agape realms of love and fellowship. Because he and his love for Howard University are truly unforgettable, we establish this fund with the goal that the name of Father Darryl Ferrar James will inspire generosity into perpetuity.
