Founded in 2015, the Lavender Fund has awarded more than $50,000 to over 40 students, uplifting and empowering Howard’s LGBTQIA+ community. It has helped transform the university’s culture by affirming the visibility, brilliance, and leadership of queer scholars. Through scholarships, safe spaces, and student-led initiatives, the Fund, Reception, Alumni, Faculty and Staff have collectively played a pivotal role in Howard University being named the #1 HBCU for LGBTQ+ inclusion by the Human Rights Campaign — positioning the university as a national model for equity in higher education.
This year, we mark the Lavender Fund’s 10th anniversary with a historic Homecoming celebration — honoring a decade of progress, spotlighting the power of our presence, and setting the stage for the next generation of impact
To secure the Lavender Fund’s future, we’re launching a bold campaign to raise $100,000 over the next 12 months and establish a permanent endowment. This endowment will ensure lasting support for queer Bison — funding scholarships, fellowships, and leadership opportunities for generations to come. We invite you to be part of this legacy.
This is more than a celebration. It is a call to continue shaping a future where every LGBTQIA+ student at Howard can be seen, supported, and empowered to lead.
