๐งฌ BIOLOGY: Increase the supply of hands-on biology resources for each student
$1,600 โ 5 Ward'sยฎ Deluxe Electrophoresis Chamber
Full biology classes at HCC are facing a challenge of not having enough gel electrophoresis boxes available to students. These make it possible to separate molecules like DNA or proteins into distinct bands. This process allows students to analyze and identify different components.
โGel electrophoresis is an exciting hands-on technique for students to learn and is applicable to many areas of scientific research in the life sciences. Providing these extra gel boxes will allow for all students to have hands-on experience rather than just through observation.โ
- Emily Rabinsky (Biology Faculty and Biotechnology Program Coordinator)
The Impact:
With your donation, at least five gel electrophoresis boxes will be purchased for HCC, which will provide the lab with enough equipment for students to work in pairs in a full classroom instead of limiting many to only being an observer. This will relate real-world scenarios for many students, such as solving crimes in forensics, monitoring ecosystems in environmental science, or diagnosing diseases in medical research.

Thanks to you, full biology classes at HCC are able to provide enough gel electrophoresis boxes to meet the demand of our rising number of students. These resources allow full classes to work in pairs and ensure all biology students get hands-on experience.
This ensures that students have first-hand experience with real-world equipment that they may find in their careers of solving crimes in forensics, monitoring ecosystems in environmental science, or diagnosing diseases in medical research.
Thank you. ๐
