Engineering Missions

The Engineering Mission Trip to Uganda brings HSU mechanical engineering students alongside HSU physical therapy teams and Joni & Friends’ Wheels for the World ministry to provide the life‑changing gift of mobility. Students will serve as technical “mechanics,” customizing and rebuilding wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, and canes for children, adults, and elderly individuals who would otherwise have no access to these resources.

Every mobility device is tailored to the unique needs of each patient—often requiring students to redesign in a fast‑paced, hands‑on environment. From creating seat cushions and splints to modifying frames and fitting walkers, students use their engineering training to restore dignity, independence, and community connection to those they serve.

More than a technical project, this mission is an opportunity to share Christ’s love with humility and compassion, serving as His hands and feet to some of the most vulnerable. Students join the global church in ministry, prayer, and evangelism as they work alongside Ugandan partners and witness the transformative power of mobility.
