Behrens Chapel

For more than a century, Behrens Chapel Auditorium has stood at the heart of Hardin‑Simmons University as a place of worship, community, and spiritual formation. Since 1911, generations of students, faculty, and staff have gathered here to praise, pray, learn, and grow together in Christian faith. Through world wars, depressions, fires, freezes, and countless seasons of change, the Chapel has remained a steadfast reminder of HSU’s heritage of worship and its commitment to Christ‑centered education.

Behrens Chapel has served as an anchor for our campus — a space where the HSU family experiences the comfort of community, the encouragement of Scripture, and the presence of God woven into our daily life. As the University continues to live out its mission, the time has come to renew this cherished space so it can continue shaping lives for generations to come.

Restoring Behrens Chapel will allow us to create a modern, flexible worship environment while honoring the heritage and identity of the original Chapel. This restoration will reflect the foundations that define HSU — honesty, humility, truth, and a faith rooted in the Word of God and modeled in the life of Christ.
