Alex de Moura,’17, was a powerhouse for GW Gymnastics from 2014-2017. Her attitude was infectious as she carried herself with great poise and confidence. In her senior year she was voted captain and led the team with strength and heart.

De Moura tragically passed away in a rip current in August of 2019 while swimming with friends in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Since her passing, it has become a priority of the program along with the family to increase the awareness around Rip Current Safety.

After her passing, the Alex de Moura Memorial Fund was created as an award opportunity. The award is given to the GW Gymnast that most exemplifies Alex's outstanding passion for gymnastics and her team. Last year, the team honored Alex with a new leotard dedicated in her honor. The team will do the same this year, debuting it at home in the Charles E. Smith Center on February 22 as the Revolutionaries face Eastern Michigan, Towson and Fisk in the second annual Rip Current Awareness meet.

We hope that you will join us and make a gift to help celebrate Alex’s incredible legacy.
