Fordham Giving Day celebrates the best of Fordham University, its students, schools, sports, and its award-winning radio station, WFUV.
WFUV (90.7 FM, wfuv.org) public radio is heard throughout the tristate area, and beyond. Our mission: to champion today’s music discovery, and develop tomorrow’s media makers. Contributions to WFUV support unique broadcasts and one-of-a-kind journalism and production training programs for Fordham students, including:
- 70-85 paid internships;
- Workshops for 120-150 students in news and sports multiplatform journalism, engineering, and production; and
- 40,000+ annual hours of training and public service.
The Student Experience at WFUV
WFUV is Fordham’s source for training students in the fields of broadcast journalism and music production, gaining hands-on education and work experience that has led to national and regional awards, valuable internships a path to become the next generation of media makers.
Student journalists at WFUV receive extensive experience in the news and sports industries from field reporting to news casting to podcasting. Often working alongside professional mass media counterparts to cover news, their stories are featured on NPR’s All Things Considered and Morning Edition nationwide.
Likewise, the all-student WFUV sports team is fully credentialed and covers nine tri-state sports teams (MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL), and major sporting events including the Super Bowl.
Students with interests in music production gain hands-on experience producing live broadcasts and in-studio sessions with a wide variety of artists. They make audio and visual recordings for 125-150 FUV Live studio sessions per year, and 25-40 off-site events, including live concerts throughout NYC and music festivals such as SXSW and the Newport Folk Festival.
