The Elizabeth Johnson Endowed Scholarship
Elizabeth A. Johnson, C.S.J., is a pathbreaking theologian who is retiring this spring after 27 years of teaching, research, and service at Fordham. Known internationally for her contributions to Catholic systematic theology, feminist theology, ecological theology, and many more fields beside, Johnson is the recipient of 15 honorary doctorates, numerous book prizes, and outstanding teaching evaluations from her undergraduate and graduate students.
This campaign seeks to complete the Elizabeth Johnson Endowed Scholarship, an effort which began several years ago with a generous gift from one of Johnson's former mentees. The scholarship allows a woman Ph.D. student in the Theology Department a funded year to research and complete her dissertation. It represents one of the ways in which Johnson's legacy of appreciative yet critical engagement with the Catholic tradition will continue as she steps down from her teaching role at Fordham.
Thank you for your past support of the Elizabeth Johnson Endowed Scholarship Fund! This month, Elizabeth A. Johnson, C.S.J, was inducted into the Hall of Honors along with six other University Luminaries. As a well respected theologian and trailblazer for feminist theology in the United States, her accomplishments are celebrated at Fordham and beyond.
