Flagler Adventure Literature Series

The Flagler Adventure Literature Series is an experiential curriculum housed within the College's Department of English. Currently the series consists of two Core courses—"Exploring the American Wilderness" and "Get Radical: The Literature and Culture of Surfing."

Unlike most offerings at the College, these courses blend classroom instruction with firsthand experience, with students reading about wilderness or surfing before then heading out into the north Georgia wild for a 4-day backpacking trip or hitting the waves weekly at Vilano.

There are currently plans to expand these offerings into courses centered on the barrier islands of South Carolina as well as the Everglades. There are ambitious plans to expand the Flagler Adventure Literature Series and develop first-year experiences to create lasting bonds, something many incoming freshmen crave when entering this strange new world of college.
