About

The Student Professional Corps (SPC) is a learning-in-place program that provides students with intentional skill development through student employment on campus. In their roles, students will do career-related work, develop workplace skills, experience mentorship, receive formal and informal feedback, and have access to professional development. Professional development will be provided on the following topics: Career and Self-Development, Communication, Critical Thinking, Leadership, Professionalism, Teamwork, and Technology. For students who complete the professional development training, digital badges will be earned and can be represented on student’s resumes and LinkedIn profiles.

A Student Professional Corps is a necessary component to Fairmont State University as the program seeks to produce students that possess valuable workplace skills, who stand out from their peers and are ready to transition from the classroom to the workplace. Participation in this program will help Fairmont State students to be competitive applicants in their internship and full-time job pursuits. Lastly, the SPC will offer a work experience that provides financial support that many students need while pursuing their degree. Moreover, working on campus has the potential to increase a student's sense of belonging and connectedness to the University. It is our hope that participation in the SPC program will also support student retention rates.
