Gifts to Kestrel: A Journal of Literature and Art contribute to...
Kestrel is the only print literary journal housed in an institution of higher learning in West Virginia. It has been in production since 1993 and includes poetry, poetry in translation, fiction, creative nonfiction, visual art, and book reviews. Kestrel's mission is to explore the human condition and to share a vision of the human experience with readers in West Virginia, Appalachia, the United States, and abroad, and to bring together contributors and audiences for Kestrel Celebrations that foster appreciation for and inquiry into the humanities.
While we receive a modest appropriation from Fairmont State for printing, costs continue to rise. In the face of budget constraints, many print journals have moved online; Kestrel's presence as a print journal is a priority. In addition to producing the print journal we also host contributors from each issue on the Fairmont State campus. A two-day celebration includes readings by contributors, panel discussions, and class visits, as well as community events such as presentations for Lifelong Learners and visits to local high school classes. Contributors from as far away as California have participated in Kestrel Celebrations at Fairmont State.
We need your help! Your gift to Kestrel will allow us to continue to publish the journal in a full-color print format twice a year and provide funding to help bring contributors to campus for our annual celebration. Please help us sustain our beloved publication.
