About

Bowers Writers House: A Home for Words, Creativity, and Community

The Bowers Writers House is a vibrant gathering place where English majors and minors, Creative Writing students, and members of the Elizabethtown College and local community come together to explore and celebrate writing, literature, and the creative arts. Through readings, conversations, and student-centered programming, the Writers House fosters creativity, critical thinking, and meaningful connection.

Your support during Power of One Day helps bring this mission to life:

  • $2,000 supports a paid student internship for a student interested in literary event programming, providing hands-on experience in planning and promoting creative events.

  • $10,000 funds visiting writer programming, including honoraria and travel. In Spring 2026, the Writers House will partner with the Medical Humanities program to welcome memoirist Mallary Tenore Tarpley, and host A.S. King, an award-winning middle grade and young adult novelist. Both writers will engage students in intimate seminar-style discussions and offer public readings for the campus and surrounding community.

  • $5,000 supports creative community-building events that celebrate student work, such as a Blind Date with a Book Valentine’s Day Party and a Gallery Walk showcasing student creative projects.

By supporting the Bowers Writers House, you help create opportunities for students to engage deeply with writers, share their own voices, and build a lasting community around the power of words.
