Dear Dominican Community,
Penguins truly stand together. We could not be more proud of our Dominican community. During Dominican's first-ever Week of Caring we saw students, parents, alumni and friends come together through happy hours, school spirit, graduation and philanthropy. Thanks to your generosity, we raised over $260,000 to support the Angel Fund, Close the Gap Scholarship, Dominican Fund, and many other programs. You also performed 300+ acts of caring to benefit the Dominican community.
Thank you for your kindness and generosity.

Between May 11 through May 16, we're asking our community to come together and show their #PenguinPride by performing acts of caring. Here's how:

Record a congratulatory video message or write a congratulatory email to graduating students who aren’t able to participate in a traditional commencement and need our moral support now more than ever. Upload your video via this Google Form. If you do not have a gmail account, you may also share your video with us by sending to alumni@dominican.edu.

Turn your Shelter in Place space into a fine wine tasting lounge on Tuesday, May 12 at 5:00 pm. Join us on our Dominican Alumni Facebook Live. Whether you're a connoisseur or just a little wine curious, join from the comfort of your own home to learn more about the craft of wine tasting from Scott Lindstrom-Dake '96, Dominican alumnus and founder/winemaker of thumbprint cellars in Healdsburg. Simply grab a bottle or two from your own rack to bring your experience to life!
Scott is making tasting easy and charitable for his fellow Penguins. 100% of proceeds for wine purchased will benefit the Close the Gap Scholarship.
Are you an Alumnus/a? Don't forget to subscribe to the free Wine Club at checkout in order to receive your special Dominican Alumni 30% discount. All proceeds from a thumbprint cellars wine purchase will go toward Dominican's Close the Gap Scholarship fund. Additionally, thumbprint cellars will donate $50 to Close the Gap for each Wine Club sign up.
*Must be 21 years of age or older to purchase and sign for delivery
In case you missed it, here's the Virtual Wine Tasting Facebook Live!

Show your school spirit by participating in the Penguin Spirit Challenge! We're celebrating Penguin Spirit Day on Thursday, May 14. Posts uploaded on Instagram and tagged with @DominicanAlumni will be reshared onto our page's story. Let's show the world our Dominican spirit and how many Penguins Stand Together!

Cheer on the Class of 2020! Heartfelt congratulations to this amazing and resilient graduating class! Please join us on Saturday, May 16, at 10 a.m. on YouTube for a broadcast of a special, short film dedicated to the Class of 2020. All graduates, families, friends, faculty, staff, and alumni are invited to join us at the virtual watch party! Go Penguins!

Keep Penguins, Penguins! With the impact of COVID-19, we are prioritizing giving options and funds that directly support our students and emergency needs. For those who are able, we invite you to make a gift to one of three funds:
- The Angel Fund focuses on providing aid for non-tuition expenses of some of our neediest students; donations allow us to provide relief and/or recovery support for students during these extenuating circumstances caused by the COVID-19 crisis.
- The Close the Gap Scholarship provides direct tuition support for students who need help closing the gap between what they receive in financial aid and what their families can provide.
- The Dominican Fund Difficult times require flexibility - and this unrestricted support fund allows Dominican to respond quickly and nimbly to unexpected opportunities and challenges.
Prefer to make your gift by check? To make a contribution by mail, please make your check payable to Dominican University of California and send it to:
Dominican University of California
Office of Advancement
50 Acacia Ave., San Rafael, CA 94901
In the memo line, please indicate that this contribution is for Dominican's Week of Caring and which fund you would like to support.
With over 200 gifts and well over 300 Acts of Caring, our first-ever Week of Caring concludes with a broadcast of a special, short film developed in collaboration with and dedicated to the Class of 2020.

This occasion marks the end of a unique academic experience for the Class of 2020. We are so proud of this class, and of all of our students, who have remained steadfast during this time of uncertainty, reflecting the best of the Dominican spirit. I hope you are as inspired by this class of graduates as I am. They will forever be an example of strength within the DU Family.
Thank you again for all of the care you have shown and #PenguinPride displayed. Throughout this week, we have been the fortunate beneficiaries of acts of caring from alumni, faculty, staff, parents, community members, and students. Every message, every video, and every gift spurred us on and reminded us how special the Dominican community is.
