Honoring the Legacy of Prendie: A Lasting Tribute

For generations, Archbishop Prendergast High School was more than just a building; it was a home. A place where lifelong friendships were formed, where we learned, laughed, and grew into the people we are today. Though the halls may no longer echo with our voices, the spirit of Prendie remains strong in all of us.

Now, we have an opportunity to honor that legacy in a lasting and meaningful way.

As Delaware County Community College transforms the Prendie property into a new center of learning, Prendie alumnae have a unique opportunity to ensure that a visible and meaningful part of our beloved school lives on. We are raising $20,000 to sponsor and recognize the historic interior lobby just inside what we remember as the front doors of Archbishop Prendergast High School, a space that holds deep significance as the symbolic threshold to education for us.

While many of us entered through other doors on a daily basis, this lobby was the ceremonial heart of the school. While the Center’s primary entrance has shifted as part of the renovation, this interior lobby has been intentionally preserved, including its original stained glass, to honor the building's history and the people who have passed through it. Honoring Prendie here ensures that its legacy is acknowledged through a simple, permanent recognition in a space that respectfully reflects the building’s past while supporting its future use.

This sponsorship will be recognized with a modest plaque identifying the Prendie alumnae community’s commitment to education. It is not intended as a named entrance or interpretive display, but rather as a meaningful acknowledgment of shared values of education, service, and opportunity that continue in this building today.

This tribute will recognize Archbishop Prendergast High School and the enduring educational mission of the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the IHMs, the RSMs, and the SSJs, whose dedication to faith, service, and learning shaped so many of our lives. Long before Prendie became our high school, these same walls served as St. Vincent’s Orphanage—an early testament to the compassion, care, and commitment to community that define this place.

This will be a space where the Prendie alumnae community demonstrates its ongoing commitment to education by supporting the students who now learn in this building, students who represent the backbone of our community and its future. And as we honor the Women of Prendie, we also recognize the Men of Prendergast who walked these halls and whose camaraderie and school spirit remain a proud part of our shared history.

  • Fundraising goal: $20,000
  • Purpose: Sponsorship and recognition of the interior lobby honoring Prendie’s legacy
  • Pledges: Gifts of $10,000 or more may be pledged over up to three years
  • Monthly giving: Automatic contributions are available through this platform

If the full sponsorship goal is not met, all funds raised will either support another meaningful space in the building or support Bonner & Prendie students enrolled in dual-enrollment programs at DCCC, ensuring that Prendie’s legacy continues through direct educational opportunity.

Let’s come together as a community to celebrate our past while shaping the future. Prendie will always be a part of us. Now, let’s make sure it remains a part of this place, too.
Make your gift today and help keep the Prendie spirit alive in the building that is so special to us.

Gratefully,
Linda Bullock
Proud Prendie Alumna
