The William H. Van Every and Edward M. Smith Galleries play a fundamental role in the life of Davidson College. Gallery exhibitions and programs nurture individual thinking, develop visual literacy, and inspire a lifelong commitment to the arts.

The Van Every/Smith Galleries oversee the College’s Permanent Art Collection, comprising more than 4,000 works of art spanning five centuries. Placing art throughout academic buildings and the landscape turns the entire campus into a gallery to be enjoyed by all.

This Spring 2022 semester, the Gallery is launching ArtMate, a new program that will allow student participants to select an artwork for their residence hall for the academic year. The Spring 2022 pilot program will operate in Duke and Chidsey Residence Halls and the Sustainability Cooperative house, with the goal of expanding to more Residence Halls for Fall 2022.
Your generous gift to our GiveCampus campaign will help us buy new art specifically for this program, with an emphasis on diversity — of media, techniques, and the identity of the artists represented in our collection. Funds will also assist with preservation, framing, and student engagement opportunities.

Do you enjoy seeing the art and sculptures around Davidson's beautiful campus? What if you could help bring art into a student's personal space? An anonymous donor is matching $20 for the next 25 donors who are staff/faculty. Go ’Cats!
