Hey everyone!
Our names are Cecilia Timberg and Katherine Beard, and we are both current seniors at Colorado College. We are the Co-Editor-in-Chiefs of the Colorado College Outdoor Journal. Our publication, a student-led outdoor storytelling publication based in Colorado Springs, is seeking $12,000 to cover printing for our third print edition.
The Colorado College Outdoor Journal features stories, art, and photography by casual evening strollers, backyard botanists, ski fanatics, novices, experts, and anyone else who wants to tell their story. It is a publication for anyone who loves being outside. With an emphasis on non-traditional storytelling mediums like art, photography, recipe-writing, etc., our publication creates a space where people feel welcome to share their experiences in the outdoors in whatever form feels most intuitive to them.
Colorado College is known for, and has capitalized upon, its proximity to the mountains. It advertises easy access to outdoor recreation, but talking to students on campus, you will hear a very different narrative. There is a prevailing complaint that adventuring outdoors has a barrier of entry that is impassable for many — you need the skill, time, transportation, gear, and connections. The Colorado College Outdoor Journal also gives valuable print and online journalism experience to students, alumni, and (hopefully this year) faculty alike. Our annual print publishing allows our contributors to participate in a multi-month, intensive editing process that balances the type of writing privileged on the block plan. The depth of the editing process is built to mimic professional long-form journalism. We aim to provide our contributors with a taste of what it would be like to pursue a career in outdoor journalism.
Our first print edition came out in Spring 2022 with 70 pages of writing, photography, art, and more. It engaged the CC student and alumni community through print outdoor storytelling. We were grateful to have Hillary Nelson, the late CO-based, ski-mountaineer, contribute to our first edition and it was with grief and honor that we dedicated our second print edition to her. Our 2nd print edition, run last school year, filled 100 beautiful pages (30+ pages more than the 1st edition) with 13 written pieces, 6 high-quality photo essays, and 5 art curations. We take pride in the quality of our print edition, but upholding that quality does take money. For that reason, we are fully dependent upon donors and sponsors. If we are able to raise the funds, our 3rd print edition will come out in March.
On that note, we are searching for donors! If you (or anyone you know) would be interested in something of this sort, please donate today and share this campaign! Anything helps π

Hi all — We have so much to catch you up on, but before we even begin, we wanted to announce that our editorial team has grown!! We have hired two new art/layout editors, two new writing editors, and one new art-specific editor. Stay tuned for profiles on each of these wonderful, new humans coming very soon. We are so excited to have more hands (and brains) on the team as we dive deeper into print season.
And with that….here are some other updates!
Partnership with Trails Mag

We are partnering with Trails Magazine, the incredible outdoor storytelling print publication to run a joint merchandising campaign. All the funding goes directly towards our print budget.
Rafi Donohoe, our talented lead art editor, put so much time and energy into this awesome Adventure Offline design. Look at how cute the TrailsMag x CCOJ logo is! You can purchase a T-shirt here.
We will also be bulk ordering some to sell on campus, so if you are in Colorado Springs, email us at ccoutdoorjournal@gmail.com or DM us on insta and we are happy to set one aside for you.
Stay tuned for more surprises on the horizon π
Thank you…
We wanted to quickly say thank you to everyone who has already supported us thus far. Every new donation that comes through is followed by an extensive text exchanged between Kat and Cecilia about how kind people are and how thankful we are for the support of our community.
The sentiment still holds deeply true: you all are so kind and we are so lucky (:

Your donations support our talented contributors, great stories, delicious pancakes, and lots of laughter. Anything and everything helps.
