Gifts to the School of Social Sciences and Public Affairs will support the CWI Speech and Debate Team.
The CWI Speech & Debate Team is built upon a legacy of excellence stretching back to the beginnings of the college. Currently 8-time Pi Kappa Delta national champions, the team has solidified itself as a premier 2-year program in the Northwest and beyond. More than just a competitive powerhouse, CWI Speech & Debate provides students with high-impact educational and career opportunities. Former competitors have received full-ride scholarships to prestigious universities and given back to their communities as educators, lawyers, and nonprofit coordinators.
Your generous donation to the team will provide opportunities for students to benefit from the truly life-changing world of competitive speech & debate. Funds will go toward the following:
- Travel Expenses- Each semester, speech & debate competes in 2-3 tournaments. These include local, regional, and national competitions. Your donation will support travel expenses so that more students can have the opportunity to participate in these events each year. Speech & debate travel is fundamental to the competitive nature of the event. Without travel to competitions, there simply is no team.
- Tournament Registration Fees- Students incur registration fees for each speech and/or debate type they will compete in at a tournament. These typically range from $10-$20 per event, so it's not uncommon for a single student's fees to quickly total as much as $100. Your donation will increase the amount of events a student can compete in at a given tournament. By donating funds to pay entry fees, you're literally providing students with a platform to have their voice be heard.
- Team Supplies- While the primary toolset of a speech & debate student is the language they wield with expert precision, there are supplies necessary for competition. From timers and note pads for debate rounds, to carefully crafted visual aids and event books for speeches, your generous donation will ensure that students have the items necessary to let their words speak for themselves.
