The CSM College Robotics team, The Talons, has proved to be force on the national stage. For the fifth consecutive year, the Talons have qualified to compete at the VEX U World Championship, the pinnacle of the university level robotic competitive season. The international tournament will take place April 25-28 in Louisville, Kentucky.
The Talons earned the spot when they competed at the VEX U regional qualifier Feb. 9, against teams that included George Mason University, Loyola University, Virginia Tech, New York Institute of Technology, University of Maryland Baltimore County, Rutgers University and IFI, a multi-college team comprised of students from several colleges in Connecticut. The Talons placed second after the IFI team, giving them a finalist position that earned the team a place at the April international competition.

The CSM Talons team is comprised of CSM students Team Captain Edward Gesser of Mechanicsville, Paul Goldsmith of St. Leonard and Eudora Tak of Charlotte Hall, with a second CSM team including Team Captain Michael Balazs of California and Cameron Williams of Indian Head.
In addition to building robots and competing, the Talons work hard throughout the year to support the K-12 robotics events. They volunteer at each Robotics Kick-Off, League Play, VEX IQ, Lego, and championship event as referees, inspectors, and judges. Each Talon volunteers for a minimum of 50 hours each year.
Help the CSM Talons raise funds to participate in the final competition of the season, and go head-to-head with teams from around the world.
The Talons competed in the West Virginia qualifier on Friday, March 2 to sharpen their claws and prepare for Worlds. They competed among 19 teams and took home the top awards of Excellence (best overall team) and Tournament Champion (1st place). Some teams they competed against included Old Dominion University, Liberty University, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Rochester Institute of Technology, Vaughn College of Aeronautics & Technology, and BridgeValley Community and Technical College. They also beat their old rivals again; these included Northern Va. Community College, Rutgers University, UMBC, and Virginia Tech.
