Haven ambassadors are Colgate students who advocate for social change throughout the student body. Ambassadors serve as trained peer mentors with the ability to guide students toward relevant on- and off-campus resources.
Through this new initiative, Haven is a national leader in guiding student action towards ending sexual violence in a creative, structured, institutionally supported, trauma-informed, and skill-based way.
This fall, the Haven ambassadors are planning to provide training about sexual assault and information about resources available to students. In the past, these trainings have been conducted before large groups and lack space for intimate conversation and action-oriented strategies concerning such a sensitive topic. Now, 14 Haven ambassadors can engage first- and second-year students in workshops and trainings that focus on equitable healing, understanding the root causes of sexual violence, and supporting survivors across all gender and identity spectrums.
This is where we need your help. We desire to raise $1,500 to address the start-up costs of this initiative. This will cover:
- travel expenses for the ambassadors to come back to campus early in the fall before orientation,
- creation and printing of the training materials, and
- development of a training manual for the ambassadors to use throughout the year.
Haven is wholly dedicated to advocacy, care, education, and support. We wish that the Haven ambassadors were there when we were students, and we can attest to the impact that Haven has had — and continues to have — on the Colgate community and culture in such a short time. Haven ambassadors, under the guidance of the Haven staff, are uniquely positioned to carry forward this crucial work.
