The Max A. Shacknai Center for Outreach, Volunteerism, and Education (the COVE) fosters a commitment to social responsibility and engagement through mutually beneficial, community-centered partnerships. For 20 years, students have learned the leadership skills needed to impose lasting social change through a variety of collaborative civic projects serving the areas of child and youth mentoring, food and shelter, educational enrichment, and community health.
Since 2001, more than 10,000 student volunteers contributed more than 525,000 service hours, spreading good through work with 100+ community organizations.
As we seek to align ourselves with the University’s Third-Century Plan and diversity, equity, and inclusion goals, we hope to support more low- and middle-income students who wish to participate in the COVE’s programs. This is where we need your help.
In honor of the COVE’s 20th anniversary, please make a gift by October 13 to support and expand programming. A generous donor has offered a 2:1 match for every gift up to $10,000.
Support for the COVE will deepen our work with communities and organizations in the Village of Hamilton, in Madison County, and around the country and the world by:
- offsetting the cost of EMT courses for students
- expanding funding for service-learning trips and summer funding opportunities in the public service sector
- providing funding for transportation to local service sites
- piloting and building an elementary-level literacy tutoring program for local schoolchildren, as well as a postgraduate program in upstate New York
