The Robotics Institute is proud to participate in the newest DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) Challenge.
The DARPA Triage Challenge is a three-year competition to design autonomous and remote robotics systems that can assess injuries and monitor vital signs after disasters or emergencies. The challenge brings together experts across multiple disciplines to develop life-saving autonomous technologies, and with your Giving CMU Day gift, you can be a part of it!
Over the coming years, Team Chiron — a partnership led by CMU alongside the University of Pittsburgh and many nonprofit and industry partners — will develop novel robotic technologies that combine unmanned aerial and ground vehicles with advanced AI to provide critical information to medical responders. The results will potentially save lives, in scenarios ranging from battlefield injuries to natural disasters.
CMU has participated in DARPA Challenges before, each time building incredible technical and problem-solving skills in hundreds of students. We’ve won before, too: in 2007, a self-driving SUV called Boss made history by driving swiftly and safely while sharing the road with human drivers and other robots, earning CMU’s Tartan Racing team first place in the DARPA Urban Challenge.
With your Giving CMU Day support, we can be champions again!
