About

The Center for Informed Democracy & Social-cybersecurity (IDeaS) is CMU's hub for the study of online harm, hate speech and extremism online.

At IDeaS, we don’t just study online harms — we take action. We bring together experts from across the country who blend insights from policy, education, and technology to better understand and counter the challenges people face online. From pushing for transparency in algorithms to promoting media literacy and protecting vulnerable communities from digital threats, IDeaS is leading the movement toward a safer, more accountable online world.

With each passing year, the work we do at IDeaS becomes more critical — especially with the recent emergence of generative AI. Your Giving CMU Day gift will ensure that the Center continues its important work for years to come.
