About

As the first open-source semiconductor fab, the ECE Hacker Fab unleashes our students’ creativity in repurposing the cutting-edge technology found in consumer devices to make low-cost DIY microfabrication tools. In the Hacker Fab, we’ve built and fabricated transistors outside a nanofabrication facility, and even created new coursework that takes curious engineers on a deep exploration of integrated circuits and micron-scale transistor designs for Internet of Things (IoT) systems.

The Hacker Fab is unique to CMU, and its success — and the resounding popularity of the new Hacker Fab course — is a testament to the passion and ingenuity of our student leaders. Your gift on Giving CMU Day to the Hacker Fab directly supports our activities and ability to grow our impact at CMU and beyond.
